Caution-Filled Chaos: Dan Michel Rises From The Ashes

Everyone’s favorite iRacing league racing series, the BSC Cup Series, was back in action last night at Martinsville Speedway for 125 laps in Henry County, Viriginia. This race featured a stage break at lap 50 and a total of 5 tire sets. Unfortunately, this race was a caution-fest with 20 cautions and turned into a parade with short bursts of racing.

Dan Michel (25) managed to overcome a two lap hold (from a penalty earlier in the season) and secured his fourth win of the BSC Spring Cleaning season last night. Alex Whitt (594) was once again the bridesmaid and not the bride, finishing in 2nd position in back-to-back weeks but ultimately secured good championship contender points. Martinsville also saw Seth Pegg (59) reach the podium for the second time this season after his 3rd place finish.

Cautions Breed Cautions

Max Christenson (5) took us to green flag racing followed by Michel, Whitt, and Noel Jakelwicz (1). However, the good times of full speed did not last long as the first caution came early on lap 2. Our beloved broadcaster, James Parfitt (666) joined us for short track madness and was immediately involved in a wreck with Cody Kern (23). This would be foreshadowing for the race about to unfold.

The first stage of racing ended early with the eighth caution coming out on lap 48 and securing the 25 car the stage victory. Christenson and Jakelwicz rounded out the top three for the stage. Pegg, your overall race podium finisher, managed to snag a 10th place in the stage.

Please Let Me Hit Top Speed

Stage two began the same way as stage one… with quick cautions slowing the field right back down. Michel, Whitt, and Christenson mainly stayed in the top three for most of the second stage as there was not enough full speed laps to race it out.

With 17 laps to go, Spainhour (89) found himself beached on a curb and had to be saved by his relative, the 10 car. With one lap to go, Christenson found himself sliding way up the track and losing the final podium position, being over taken by three cars and finding himself in 6th.

Michel, Whitt, and Pegg make up your top three from Martinsville. After the race Whitt said, “It was hard to get into any sort of rhythm there.” and “It was tricky on those restarts, obviously, because you know you only had two laps to make a move”.

Moving on From Martinsville

With 80 caution laps out of a possible 127 at Martinsville in the rearview, its time to turn our attention to next week. The BSC Cup Series returns at Darlington Raceway for 125 laps.

Who will come out victorious? Will Martinsville join USA International in the BSC Graveyard? Will we have good, green flag racing again? Be sure to tune into the broadcast or come race with us to find out.
